After five decades together as a band, Aerosmith has officially retired.

The news came after lead singer Steven Tyler suffered a vocal injury in September 2023, a few shows into the rock band's “Peace Out… Farewell Tour," forcing them to postpone the concerts until 2024.

On Friday, Aug. 2, Aerosmith released a statement via social media announcing the cancellation of the rest of its tour—along with its retirement.

"It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades," the message via Instagram began.

"Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history. It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours," the band continued. "In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives. We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing."

That's when Aerosmith addressed Tyler's health, noting that his "voice is an instrument like no other." Although the 76-year-old has "spent months tirelessly working" on returning his voice to what it was before the injury, his bandmates have "seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side."

They added: "Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision - as a band of brothers - to retire from the touring stage."

Aerosmith shared they were "grateful beyond words" for fans looking forward to watching them tour one last time. They also thanked their crew and team before expressing gratitude to fans.

"A final thank you to you - the best fans on planet Earth," they concluded. "Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true."

Originally, Aerosmith's farewell tour was set to end in December. Those who purchased tickets via Ticketmaster will automatically receive a full refund, the band noted, adding that fans who bought tickets from third-party sites should reach out to the point of purchase for details.

In the comments, fans reacted to Aerosmith's retirement news with heartfelt messages. One person wrote, "This is heartbreaking but I can’t imagine how the guys feel. Thank you Aerosmith for being a pivotal part of my life! Your music got me through some serious s---."

Another commented, "Love you guys. Your music changed my life. 💜💔✨🙏."

Meanwhile, someone else shared, "Thank you for the music and memories! This is heartbreaking 💔😢 All The Best To Everyone! 🙏🏼."

Before I moved to IL, I worked in the Production office at Six Flags Amphitheater at Darien Lake. One of the best jobs I ever had and I have so many "rockstar" stories, like playing basketball with Creed. Eating at Homestyle Buffet with Travis Barker (And getting annoyed by fans). Being the first non-band member of Good Charlotte to hear their 2nd CD, The Young and The Hopeless at the Buffalo Airport in my Expedition. Driving Rancid to their Hotel while they did a phone interview live with MTV - also in my Expedition. (I loved that truck). I probably worked 500 concerts or so. I mean it's endless.

Two of them were Aerosmith, which made them two of the worst tours to work with.

One of the benefits of giving up about 20 hours for about $10/hr is that you get to watch the show when the work is done. From anywhere in the house. MY spot was next to the right corner of the stage, for every show.

Not with Aerosmith. The house employees are NOT allowed to watch the show without a purchased ticket. Joe Perry's Tour Bus gets parked in the middle of the backstage area, and you're not allowed to walk past it - although you have no choice. But he doesn't;t ride in, in his tour bus. They FLY to each show and Joe just uses it as a dressing room. After the show, they right into Limos as they come off stage, and get a Police Escort straight to the Airport.

It's fucking horrible. They even hire their own security so that the House security doesn't get to work.

So, no love lost. Fuck Aerosmith. I haven't listened to any of their music in over 20 years,

I want to know how one fractures a larynx singing in a show? Laryngeal fracture is from blunt forced trauma. (Cue Spiked with a joke)

Aerosmith always there, but never anyone's favorite band. When does Boston put out it's next album? Will it be there 3rd or 4th since 1976? LOL.

And.... prediction here. Like VH did, Aerosmith will call Gary Cherone and ask him to take over. LOL x 2.
