Bills camp observations: Joey Bosa a full participant on Day 1
"The body is perfectly fine. Calf is no issue anymore,” Bosa told reporters after practice. “I was feeling good weeks ago, so I was able to get a full offseason in and train really hard. I feel great coming into camp. It's fun to be out there again."
Joey Bosa spent a couple days feeling sorry for himself.
After that, the Buffalo Bills’ veteran defensive end got to work on getting back to full health after a calf injury suffered during defensive line drills in the spring meant missing all of the team’s work up to and including mandatory minicamp.
That work paid off, as Bosa was a full participant on the first day of training camp at St. John Fisher University.
“The body is perfectly fine. Calf is no issue anymore,” he said after practice. “I was feeling good weeks ago, so I was able to get a full offseason in and train really hard. I feel great coming into camp. It’s fun to be out there again. Obviously, you’ve got to knock the rust off, as usual during camp – cut down the mental errors, first day jitters a little bit, but it was a good day.”

The Bills signed Bosa to a one-year, prove-it contract this offseason after injuries led to him being able to play in just 28 games in the regular season over the past three years with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Given that, the optics of Bosa not participating in the spring were bad. He’s aware of that.
“After the first few days of feeling sorry for myself and going through, ‘Oh my God, this is happening again,’ you get over it and you start improving,” he said. “You just keep working to get back healthy. It ended up being a very minor thing. I improved a lot faster than other people thought I would.”
Injury report
Four players did not participate in the first practice of training camp: Tight end Dawson Knox (hamstring), right tackle Spencer Brown (back), wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. (lower leg strain) and center Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (calf).General manager Brandon Beane said after practice that Knox tweaked his hamstring training the other day.
Brown, who has a history of back injuries, had something “flare up,” according to Beane.
“We want to be cautious,” the GM said. “It’s always different now versus in season. Now, you’re going to try to be more cautious.”
