Bills hold tryout for three kickers after Tyler Bass missed most of preseason
Eddy Piñeiro, Zane Gonzalez and Greg Joseph were involved in a tryout Thursday at One Bills Drive
An injury that kept Tyler Bass out for most of the Buffalo Bills' training camp has led general manager Brandon Beane to hold a tryout to determine whether the team needs to add another kicker.
Eddy Piñeiro, Zane Gonzalez and Greg Joseph were involved in a tryout Thursday at One Bills Drive, according to the NFL transactions wire. Bass returned for the Bills' final preseason game, a 23-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday, and made kicks of 37, 37 and 39 yards, but his 26-yard attempt in the fourth quarter went wide right.
Bass was unavailable for most of camp because of pelvic soreness that became problematic in late July and caused the Bills to sign Caden Davis, whom they released following a 38-0 loss to Chicago in the second preseason game. Bass did not kick Wednesday during the portion of practice open to the media, but reporters were allowed to see only individual drills. Bass missed five field goals in 2024, all within 49 yards or less, and he missed five field goals in 2023.
The Bills held a tryout for multiple kickers early last season and signed Lucas Havrisik to the practice squad in October.

Piñeiro spent the past two seasons in Carolina, where he worked under Bills special teams coordinator Chris Tabor. Piñeiro was 1-for-2 on kicks of 50-plus yards and 6 of 8 on kicks of 40-49 yards. Gonzalez appeared in six games for the Washington Commanders last season and went 4 of 6 on attempts of 40-plus yards. Joseph played for three teams in 2024 and, previously, he was the Minnesota Vikings' kicker for three seasons.
