Two prominent members of the Buffalo Bills' offense won't be on the field at St. John Fisher University when the first practice of training camp is held Wednesday.

Right tackle Spencer Brown was placed on the physically unable to perform list Tuesday, and tight end Dawson Knox was placed on the non-football injury list, according to the NFL transaction log. Additionally, backup center Sedrick Van Pan-Granger landed on the PUP.

The Bills signed tight end Matt Sokol earlier Tuesday with Knox unavailable at the start of camp, but they did not add an offensive lineman.

If Brown misses time, the Bills could give an opportunity early in camp to backup tackle Tylan Grable, rookie Chase Lundt or Ryan Van Demark. Alec Anderson or undrafted rookie Jacob Beyer could get snaps at center behind Buffalo's starter, Connor McGovern. Brown was one of the best tackles in the NFL last season. According to ESPN, he ranked 15th in pass block win rate and Pro Football Focus credited him with only one sack allowed on 537 pass-block snaps in the regular season. Brown has started 56 games in four seasons since he was a third-round draft pick out of Northern Iowa.

Bills coach Sean McDermott is scheduled to speak to reporters prior to practice Wednesday.

Knox is entering his seventh season with the Bills, and he caught 22 passes for 311 yards with one touchdown in 2024. His absence could lead to more snaps for rookie tight end Jackson Hawes in 12 personnel, while Dalton Kincaid is the obvious choice to line up with the first-team offense. Kincaid told The Buffalo News in May that he played through injuries to both of his knees last season. The 2023 first-round draft pick had just 44 catches for 448 yards and two touchdowns.

I am a fan of neither and would NOT have resigned either after their initial rookie contract.

I hope they are healthy soon since we don't have good alternatives for either on the team right now.
