Highmark Stadium ranked second-most haunted stadium in the NFL

As the tributes flow in for the Bills’ final season in Highmark Stadium, here comes one from beyond the grave.

Pickwise, a sports betting analysis site, has declared the home of the Bills the second-most haunted stadium in the NFL.

How did we earn this designation, you ask? Was there a Headless Hoodie sighting on the visitors’ sideline? Did the Ghost of Tom Brady Victories Past show up at a tailgate?

Actually, it was a rating system. Pickwise factored in distance to the nearest cemetery, a “ghost story” score, the age of the stadium, years without a Super Bowl appearance, and the number of haunted locations per 1,000 square miles in a team’s home state.

The 19th century Sheldon Family Cemetery is right outside Gate 7. Years without a Super Bowl appearance – we know. The age of the stadium – check back next season. But it turns out New York State isn’t scary good in the haunted locations metric (Old Fort Niagara can only do so much).

As for the ghost story, Highmark Stadium scored a nearly supernatural 9 out of 10. The site points to the cemetery right outside, and how the stadium design was reportedly altered to keep the cemetery in place. Pickwise noted that part of the stadium complex was built on Native American burial grounds – a 2022 PolitiFact story said the burial grounds were located under what are now stadium parking lots and near Abbott Road.

We think we know just the person to lift this supposed curse. He wears No. 17, and we hope to see him winning a big game at Levi’s Stadium (27th most haunted) in February.
