If I were to amend the constitution I would have the following amendments:
XXVIII No single person, business, social or religious organization, pac, or any other single entity may donate more than 100 dollars to any single candidate or ballot initiative per election cycle. Also, all candidates and campaigns must divulge all sources of their money for 100 percent transparency.
You have transparency and you get rid of corporations and special interests buying the elections
XXIX Under pain of death, no elected or appointed office holder, or candidate may receive gifts or funds of any amount from any foreign government or business concern.
This should require no explanation, but in case it does, our policy decisions should not be swayed by any foreign government. When that happens, we lose sovereignty and freedom over our own policies. We need to do what is best for us, not London, Berlin, Kiev, Moscow, Beijing, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, etc. . .
XXX Bong chiki wa wa [and yes, that needs to be part of the language of the amendment], the electoral college is to be abolished and presidential candidates will be decided solely on the popular vote
Want to get people to turn out to vote? Make them know their vote counts. @HipKat you live in Illinois. I live in Missouri. I am going somewhere with this. In Missouri, the voters of democratic strongholds like St. Louis and Kansas City truly don't matter (which is why I have and do vote for all manner of write in candidates because when it comes to presidential politics my vote truly does not matter) because over half the state is rural republicans. On the other hand, in states like Illinois and California, rural Republican voters have no voice. This is not a matter of this is a good candidate, that is an evil candidate its that in this country -as something of a democracy - everyone should have the right for their vote to count. When you have the electoral college, candidates only have to care about voters in a 10 to 12 states. Popular vote? All 50 states and every single voter matters. Nobody can be taken for granted.
XXXI The vote pass. On reaching the age of 18, all Americans will receive a completely tax payer funded voter identification card. It will be a picture ID that will have a random voter number ID on it and it must be presented on election day. The card will be scanned and then you will vote
XXXII Section one of the 13th Amendment which reads "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." shall be amended to read "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
The prison industrial complex is a blight on our national conscience and is why we have so many people behind bars for non violent offenses.
XXXIII All Americans 65 years or older have a right to social security benefits, this right shall not be infringed
XXXIV All Americans have a right to a living wage
XXXV All Americans have a right to safe and affordable housing
XXXVI All Americans have the right to healthcare
XXXVII All Americans between 18 and 21 must serve either 3 years in the United States military or 3 years in community volunteer service
