Mark Sanchez, former NFL QB and current Fox analyst, arrested for 3 misdemeanors after being stabbed in Indianapolis
Sanchez was scheduled to call the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 5 home game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Mark Sanchez, a former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst, was arrested for three misdemeanors — battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication — after being stabbed early Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis.
Sanchez, 38, is recovering in a nearby hospital, where he's still located as of 5:15 p.m. ET Saturday, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, which reported that he's not yet been booked into jail.
"The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision," the latest IMPD statement reads. "An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."
Sanchez was scheduled to call the Indianapolis Colts’ Week 5 home game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, but he will no longer work the game. Brady Quinn, an analyst for Fox's college football pregame show, "Big Noon Kickoff," will fill in for Sanchez on the Colts-Raiders broadcast, Fox told Front Office Sports.
The IMPD first released a statement around 2:15 p.m. ET Saturday about the incident, which occurred near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street around 12:30 a.m. ET.
The "physical disturbance" involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other "sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds," according to the IMPD.
Police believe it was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence, per the IMPD's first statement. Both men are not local residents, according to IMPD.
Security footage reportedly showed the interaction, according to the Indy Star. After Sanchez and the man talked, Sanchez reportedly ran after the man and threw him toward a wall. The fight moved to the middle of an alley, where Sanchez reportedly threw the man to the ground.
The man reportedly pulled out pepper spray and sprayed the former quarterback, who was not affected. The man then feared for his life and pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez two or three times, per the Indy Star.
Sanchez was reportedly shocked before he ran off down the alley.
Before joining the broadcast booth, Sanchez spent 10 seasons in the NFL. The New York Jets drafted him No. 5 overall out of USC in 2009. Playing for Rex Ryan, Sanchez quarterbacked the Jets to back-to-back AFC championship games in his first two years in the league.

The Jets offered well-wishes to their former quarterback on social media, saying on X: "Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6."
After five years in New York, Sanchez finished his career as a backup, making stops in Philadelphia (2014-15), Denver (2016), Dallas (2016), Chicago (2017) and Washington (2018).
