So are we ever going to move beyond thoughts and prayers?

Just curious.

This weekend we had two mass shootings, one in Philly and one in the Carolinas.

Last year we had 41,000 people die due to gun violence in this country

In comparison, in a war with drone strikes, rockets, artillery salvos, and all the assorted horrors of war 13 thousand Ukrainians have died in three fucking years of a very stupid war. Now maybe just maybe when you are losing more people at home in one year when you are at peace and nobody is bombing you than a nation suffering frequent air strikes and artillery strikes and invasion and heavy battles and firefights, has in 3+ years maybe just fucking maybe you start asking about how we keep violent criminals and violently mentally ill people from getting guns.

Propose something as opposed to pointing at those that don’t propose something…. Saying thoughts and prayers is not enough without a plan is kinda worse that offering thoughts and prayers.

Oh let’s do background checks… ok
3 day waiting period… ok
No semiautomatic / bump stocks… ok

What does that do to the 100 million weapons already in existence and the black market? Crazy people already own or have access to weapons. They don’t have an expiration date. A gun purchased in 1980 will kill a shit ton of people in the hands of a lunatic.

I have many times, but

1. Liability insurance
2. Registration of weapons at point of purchase
3. Criminal and Mental background checks before you can purchase
4. to legally own a gun you are conscripted into your state national guard

Black market requires no registration
Prior purchases are a boondoggle to registrations
Who preforms mental testing? Will they be shielded from liability?

I Like number 4 but again it’s only going forward.
I like 1 and registrations and there needs to be renewals but South Chicago I’m afraid won’t abide.
