The Athletic: Josh Allen to start Bills’ preseason opener vs. Bears

Many NFL teams have already announced that their starting quarterbacks will not participate in the preseason. The Bills and franchise quarterback Josh Allen will not be among that group.

Bills coach Sean McDermott announced Thursday that Allen and the team’s starters would play against the Bears in the team’s preseason opener Saturday afternoon. McDermott mentioned the starters would play “a quarter, give or take.”

Allen’s participation in the first preseason game is a shift from how the team approached the exhibition matchups last year. Although Allen did not participate in the first preseason matchup, he did play in the second and third contests in 2023.

McDermott did not commit to Allen playing any other preseason games just yet but also left the door open for the quarterback to do so.

The Bears have yet to announce whether or not No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams will play in the preseason matchup against the Bills.
