Trump says he ‘couldn’t care less’ if auto prices rise because of tariffs

President Donald Trump said Saturday he doesn’t care if automakers hike prices because of his tariffs. In fact, he encouraged them to.

Asked by NBC News’ Kristen Welker in a phone interview about whether he pressured automakers to avoid raising prices after his 25% tariffs on imported cars and parts go into effect, Trump denied that he told CEOs to control costs.

“No, I never said that,” Trump told Welker. “I couldn’t care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American cars.”

Of course he doesn't care, he can afford more expensive stuff. The average consumer can't. For me that kind of sucks especially since I am in the market for a newer model vehicle as Kansas City's mass transit system -due to fraud, mismanagement, corruption, and waste - is literally on the brink of break down, half the routes are being slashed, lots of layoffs, and even worse service on weekends. If I have to drive to work, fine and good, I need a reliable vehicle.

I appreciate the winters are tough in KC and I have no idea of the length of your commute to work, but you are a relatively young guy — have you considered a larger e-scooter?

I am on my 4th e-bike/e-scooter since 2013 and no longer use it from the beginning November to the end of March because it is damn cold even when layered 6-7 deep however up here they do NOT require a driver’s licence nor insurance. Add in the fact they take very little electricity plugged into your home and it is a very inexpensive and reliable mode of transportation.

I started with a 60V, traded it in for a 72V, eventually upgraded to a 80V and now own the biggest model which is a 84V.

I would not recommend this solution if you have any highway driving on your commute.

In any event, they are fun to drive as long as you get over the guilt that Sukie could NEVER overcome of having a carbon footprint the size of a Florida alligator.

In spring, summer, and fall that could work. November to March? That would be sooooo cold. I'm thinking of an electric truck, not a tesla those look like oversized garbage bins, but a respectable truck, a Ford maybe

An electric truck is going to cost a lot of money -- you have that gas bill there to pay.

Why NOT an e-scooter for the next 7-8 months and then buy an old beater truck.

Ask Sukie -- the chicks are NOT impressed by the size of your truck.

The Ford is a really nice truck

They are in Illinois and I bet they are in Misery, I mean, Missouri, also

If you buy an electric anything you are an idiot. Lease is only way. Let someone else deal with plunging values and no second hand market.

Whatever happens in your shit hole country with regards to this I don't know.

I don't speak retardo.

However, I bought my fully electric SmartCar from Mercedes Benz in 2018 for approx $40K Canadian and received $13.5K CAN as a grant from the then Provincial Ontario Government at the the time for the purchase of the electric car, plus another $500 CAN towards the cost of the level 2 charger in my garage plus another $500 CAN towards the cost of the electrician who hooked up the charger.

Once Mercedes Benz had its own electric car to sell it figured out that selling an electric SmartCar for less than half of any other car MB sells did NOT make sense so MB no longer sells my convertible car in North America anymore however must service it for 25 years.

As such, without heavy battery usage on my car, I could probably sell it for more than I paid for it 7 years ago.

If you can play with finance money and get a better deal than I did, knock yourself out but I don't believe that anymore than I believe that the American average penis size is greater than 3".

I think the dinosaurs had the same kind of conversations just before they were rendered extinct that Americans are now having on a variety of issues including the adoption of electric cars.

Drill Baby Drill!!!

You selfish fuckers don't give a shit about future generations and live for the moment.

If you are wrong that the Second Coming is soon coming, you are all fucked.

Plus, I am pretty confidant if Jesus did make his arrival in today's U-S-A, you mother fuckers would simply shoot him saying he is a Marxist Terrorist.

Shut your cake hole, you complete moron.

So why would automakers in the US have to raise prices if Canada and Mexico are paying the tariffs? I guess this is another “build a wall and Mexico will pay for it.”
