I upgraded to 1Gbps internet plan but my network stuff is old crap.

I have an Orbi router by Netgear and an Arris Surfboard modem… I’m getting 340-360 Mbps but the Orbi is “ac” meaning WiFi 5

The modem is old style Docsis 3 but offers me over 800 Mbps…. This system is slowing me down.

First off. Currently the latest tech is WiFi 7 but it’s new. All routers offer 2.4 and 5 MHz bands
Wi-Fi 7 offers an additional band at 6 Hz

Wi-Fi 7 still will be years before wildly adopted in home smart tech so..,

I’m looking for a WiFi 6 router (or 6e which offers the 3rd band)

I wanna get as close to 800 and beyond if my service bumps me over a gig.

What do you guys use?

I'm a BIG fan of Linksys WiFi 6E Routers
Orbi's are good, too, but the Linksys web app lets you really get into settings and have full control over your network.

For me, 1GB Fiber Optic
3 hard wired Linksys Tri-Band WiFi 5 Mesh routers

For me,

That’s sweet but I need to get off 5 I might jump to a 7 to future proof it.

Best Buy doe a 15% trade up thingy on a lot. I love the Orbi. It’s 2 of us with phones iPad and smart stuff just farting into the couch and binging off Apple TV.
Orbi got stupid expensive

Might try TP link Archer or go Asus. It’s gonna be 200 for 7, 120 for 6e

(Don’t need a mesh for my 1600 sf home)

You'd be surprised how much of a difference Mesh is. I have three because I have really high internet demands, but 2 is probably OK. I would be OK with WiFi 6E. 7 is like 8K. There just isn't anything out here yet and you can still set up a home network VPN or security like Wireshark, etc

The thing that kills me is I had the same modem for like 10-12 years… back when I had an Apple,Airport router which would have been a WiFi 3.. then a 4. Finally I did some reading and my biggest issue was the modem. So many rent from the IS). 10-15 a month … crazy. Tech changes . People freezing on a zoom call is most likely equipment… NOT unstable service.

Oh I know. Especially with a Triband mesh but if nodes are to close to each other then signal issues occur as nodes fight to deliver data. I get great signal strength on a single unit. Townhouse is tiny
