2024 Super Bowl odds: 49ers enter playoffs as favorite, ahead of the Ravens

The San Francisco 49ers are the favorites to win Super Bowl 53 in Las Vegas. Baltimore has the second-best odds thanks to finishing the season 13-4, the best record in the NFL. Both teams have byes in the wild-card round, which helps their Super Bowl odds.

It’s been an up-and-down year for the Buffalo Bills, who now find themselves with the third-best odds after beating the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night to win the AFC East title. They’ll host the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round and are also a huge favorite in that game. Buffalo sat at 5-5 after Week 10 and fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey. Buffalo won six of its last seven games to get the No. 2 seed, which guarantees home games for the first two games of the playoffs if it wins the wild-card round.

The defending champion Kansas City Chiefs are +900. The Chiefs have their best defense since Patrick Mahomes became quarterback, but the 2023 season has also been Mahomes’ worst season as a professional. Kansas City’s defense finished with the third-best points allowed per game in the NFL while its offense finished with the 12th-most points scored per game.

Is this the year the Dallas Cowboys can put it all together in the playoffs? Dallas got some help to win the NFC East, mostly thanks to the Eagles faltering down the stretch, but Dallas is 8-0 at home this year and has won 16 straight games at AT&T Stadium.

The Houston Texans opened the season with the worst odds to win the Super Bowl at +30000 (300-to-1). Now, C.J. Stroud has led his team to an AFC South title in his rookie year and they sit at +4000 (40-to-1) entering the playoffs. Houston is a 2-point underdog to Cleveland next week.

The Steelers (+12500) and the Packers (+8000) have the longest odds to win the Super Bowl of the 14 playoff teams.

Who will play in Super Bowl LVIII?

What more is there to prove for Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens? Oh yeah, they need to win playoff games. Jackson and the Ravens had the best record in the NFL this season, including a 33-19 win on Christmas night at the San Francisco 49ers. Jackson is a huge favorite to win the league MVP, but he only has a 1-3 record in playoff games including a bad loss to the Titans in 2020 when the Ravens had a bye.

The Ravens are my pick to represent the AFC in Las Vegas this year.

As for the NFC, there’s a lot of interesting teams, but they all have flaws in their own unique ways.

Can the Cowboys make their first trip to the Super Bowl since 1996? I think so. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons are an incredible trio for any team to slow down. It helps that the Cowboys will play at least two games at AT&T Stadium on their way to the Super Bowl.

The 49ers’ loss to the Ravens exposed a lot of flaws with that team and we shouldn’t forget about that three-game losing streak in the middle of the year when they lost to the Browns, Vikings and Bengals. Only one of those teams made the playoffs.

Who’s your favorite underdog team?

The Rams. I made this bet a few weeks ago and I’m hoping that the Rams can keep up their hot run to end the season. This is a different team with Kyren Williams in the lineup. The Rams sat at 3-6 after Week 9. Since their bye in Week 10, they have won seven out of eight games with their only loss coming to the Ravens in overtime in Baltimore.

Playing a leaky Lions defense in the wild-card round is a great matchup for Matthew Stafford in his return to Detroit and then they’d face the 49ers in a divisional matchup in the divisional round. If you’re the 49ers, the Rams are the team you don’t want to see.
