For a second straight day, Buffalo Bills linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle/pectoral/personal) did not practice Thursday, casting doubt as to whether Bernard will be available for their next game at Sunday at Seattle.
Throughout the first seven weeks of this season, only one Bills player, wide receiver Khalil Shakir, has missed the first two days of practice and gone on to play in the next game. Shakir did so in Week 6 against the New York Jets.
The Bills were also without wide receiver Curtis Samuel (pectoral) on Thursday, who has not practiced this week, but who did stop by the team’s stretching period in a shirsey.
After missing Wednesday’s practice, defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (foot/vet rest), tight end Dawson Knox (ankle) and defensive end Dawuane Smoot (groin) all participated in Thursday’s practice. Jones was a full participant, while Knox and Smoot were limited.
Also limited for the Bills were defensive tackle DeWayne Carter (wrist), wide receiver Mack Hollins (shoulder), nickel cornerback Taron Johnson (forearm) and tight end Dalton Kincaid (collarbone). Hollins, Johnson and Kincaid all practiced in red non-contact jerseys.
Safety Damar Hamlin (ankle) and linebacker Dorian Williams (knee) were up to full participants Thursday after they were both limited Wednesday.
Miller’s presence
Suspended Bills defensive end Von Miller, serving a four-game ban for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, was in the team’s locker room after practice Wednesday. In an email to The Buffalo News, the league office said teams have the option of welcoming back a player halfway through his suspension, an item added in the 2020 collective bargaining agreement. For Miller, that meant he could return to the facility last week.
Miller wraps up his suspension Sunday and is eligible to return to full-team activities Monday ahead of the Bills’ Week 9 home game against Miami.
Allen’s next milestone
Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the only player with at least 100 pass attempts (189) and no interceptions entering Week 8.If Allen avoids an interception with his first 11 pass attempts Sunday at Seattle, he will become just the fifth quarterback in NFL history with at least 200 pass attempts and no interceptions in his team’s first eight games, joining Bernie Kosar (Cleveland, 1991), Jason Campbell (Washington, 2008), Brian Hoyer (Chicago, 2016) and Alex Smith (Kansas City, 2017).
Kosar finished that season with nine picks, Campbell six, Hoyer none (on exactly 200 attempts) and Smith five.
Coleman honored
Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman was voted NFL Rookie of the Week for his performance against the Tennessee Titans. Coleman had 125 receiving yards, a career high, on four receptions.Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels won five of the first six weeks this season. New York Jets running back Braelon Allen won in Week 2.
