Buffalo Sabres fans, take a bow: You went viral for finishing 'O, Canada' when the mic went out

Buffalo Sabres fans didn't leave with the outcome they wanted Tuesday night at the end of Game 5 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Boston Bruins. David Pastrnak made sure of that with his nifty deke and forehand to beat Alex Lyon in overtime for a 2-1 win, sending the series back to Boston on Friday.

But they gave the rest of North America an indelible memory at the start of the night.

It began on a viral note when the microphone of anthem singer Cami Clune went south, cutting out early during her rendition of "O, Canada." True to form, the Buffalo crowd performed most of the song without her.

As we all know, the Canadian national anthem is quite a familiar tune here.

The Sabres have performed the anthem before every game since their birth in 1970 in salute to our neighbors to the north, as well as the many Buffalo fans who cross the Peace Bridge every game night.

Many fans from Boston and beyond, perhaps unaccustomed to the tradition, took to social media before Game 1 at KeyBank Center to express their surprise.

At any rate, Tuesday's moment seemed to have pierced a soft spot among citizens on both sides of the border, all too happy to have seen a little moment of harmony entre amis.

Again: Take a bow, Buffalo. City of Good Neighbours, indeed.

Not trying to be dramatic, but this is one of my favorite moments all playoffs…

The microphone kept cutting in & out for the Canadian national anthem, so the Buffalo Sabres crowd stepped up & sang the O Canada together

This is what it’s all about. Well done, Buffalo 👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/Pz0jg25kKY
