Carousel tracker: Where potential Bills candidates are interviewing

The NFL’s coaching carousel moves quickly, and the Buffalo Bills just jumped on board.

After the Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott on Monday, the team will look for options around the league. The Bills have yet to announce any interviews, but other teams are further along in their respective processes.

Coaches that have made it on to conference championship games now have to wait until their teams are done to continue interviewing, delaying the timeline in such cases.

Here is where some likely candidates for the Bills are interviewing outside of Buffalo. This tracker will be updated.

Joe Brady, Bills OC

Brady has entertained a few openings already. On Sunday, Brady completed interviews with the Raiders and Ravens for their head coach vacancies. On Tuesday, CBS’ Jonathan Jones reported that Brady also will interview with the Cardinals. Brady has a second interview set up with the Ravens, per the team.

Brady is likely to get an interview with the Bills, and he may get calls for offensive coordinator openings as well, although that would be a lateral move. Brady already calls plays in Buffalo.

Brian Daboll, former Giants HC

Daboll, who previously served as the Bills’ offensive coordinator, was fired in November, so teams have known he would be available. So far, his second chances at the helm have been limited.
Daboll’s name has been more in the mix for offensive coordinator openings, including with the Eagles, Titans and Chargers. Daboll was first interviewed by the Titans for their head coach opening, which went to Robert Saleh, but Tennessee is reportedly still interested in having him on staff to compliment the defensive-minded head coach.

Klint Kubiak, Seahawks OC

Kubiak had six head-coaching interviews during No. 1 Seattle’s bye week, per ESPN’s Brady Henderson. Among those, Kubiak interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons on Jan. 10, but the Falcons went with former Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski. He was requested to interview with the New York Giants, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, but the Giants have gone with former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

Of teams still looking for a head coach, Kubiak (not to be confused with his brother Klay, who has also gotten interview requests this cycle) has interviewed with the Ravens, Raiders and Cardinals. He now has to wait until the Seahawks’ season ends one way or another to continue interviewing.

Davis Webb, Broncos QBs coach

Webb, who turns 31 this week, has interviewed with the Ravens and Raiders. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, “multiple teams want to schedule second, in-person interviews” with Webb, who is the Denver Broncos' passing game coordinator.
Webb, who was the third-string quarterback for the Bills from 2019 to 2021, has garnered interest from the Giants, per KUSA-TV's Mike Klis. Webb was a third-round pick of the Giants in 2017, and he returned there for a second stint to bookend his playing career in 2022.

Mike McDaniel, former Dolphins HC

Like Daboll, McDaniel will probably get more looks for offensive coordinator roles. He did have a second head coach interview scheduled with the Browns, with withdrew from that, per Pelissero. Pelissero reports that McDaniel is still a candidate for the Ravens and Raiders, but he is also interview for the Chargers' offensive coordinator opening on Tuesday.

Nate Scheelhaase, Rams pass game coordinator

Like Kubiak and Webb, Scheelhaase’s interviews are on pause right now as his team prepares for the NFC Championship game. The young up-and-comer Scheelhaase is set to interview with the Browns, Steelers and Raiders, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Mike Tomlin, former Steelers HC

It appears, at this point, that Tomlin is not interested in interviewing for coaching positions for this upcoming season. There have been no reports of him scheduling anything. If Tomlin were to change his mind and aim to be a head coach again, his new team would have to trade assets to get him.
