He's right you know, and it sucks but he's right

Well despite all that, Bill Maher still went to the White House and kissed the ring — and then glowed about what a great dinner he had with Trump and his henchmen.

He kissed fascist oligarch Elon Musk’s ass on his show.

Maher had some useful years during the Dubya years but his better days are far behind him.

I don’t care what he thinks anymore because he’s a kneeler and a phony. Got no time for people like that.

I was so excited to rent Religulous back in the day, and I still remember coming out of watching that movie thinking less of him. There was more Islamophobia in that movie than there were jokes.

Definitely lots of Islamophobia. I thought he was even kind of mean spirited to Christians minding their own business.

Sidebar: he definitely got weirder during and after Covid. I remember watching him attack people wearing masks during the pandemic and thinking like, dude what do you care? They’re not hurting you or anyone else — in fact they’re helping slow the spread of the damn thing.

That and Maher definitely falls for tons of right wing culture war red meat. Sad decline for someone who’s clearly an intelligent guy.

That's SO not true.
When almost everyone was wearing masks, and the holdouts were the fewest, 3000-50000 people were dying each day.
Most people never even washed the useless cloth masks they wore and many wore them incorrectly.

Masking was an epic fail.

Sigh.

This is where podcasters and their kook guests have fooled even highly intelligent people.

Yes, masking did help during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Numerous studies and real-world data showed that wearing masks—especially well-fitted ones like N95s or surgical masks—significantly reduced the spread of the virus. Masks primarily worked by:
  1. Reducing Transmission: Infected individuals emitted fewer respiratory droplets when masked, lowering the risk of spreading the virus to others.
  2. Protecting the Wearer: High-quality masks also helped protect uninfected individuals by filtering out airborne particles.
While masks were not 100% effective on their own, they were an important part of a layered approach to mitigation (alongside vaccination, ventilation, and distancing). Their impact was most noticeable in settings with high community spread or in crowded indoor environments.

I don’t mean this as a personal attack on you, but I think you’ve been bamboozled by some of Joe Rogan’s guests.

And for people who were too fucking stupid to wear a simple mask correctly, well, maybe humanity deserved a little thinning of the herds.

We’re not a bright species. I don’t know how we survived long enough in the wild to invent tools and evolve into apex predators.

Seems to me the planet will better off once we’re extinct and the worms and cockroaches inherit the earth.

And the way things are going, extinction sounds like a mercy for our fallen world.

And how many were wearing well-fitting or N95s? Almost none. A very small percentage.
3000 to 5000 were dying per day.
It was only when the vaccines came out that the death rate started to fall.

That's not a "masks don't work" argument.

If nobody wore seatbelts, that wouldn't mean seatbelts aren't effective. It would mean we need to do more to make seatbelt use compulsory.

They are effective if they aren't the seatbelts that actually save lives and instead they're homemade, loosely woven straps with literally no safety rating

Kind of like if you buckle your seatbelt before you sit down. Yeah, you “buckled” it but if you’re sitting on top of it it ain’t gonna help when you crash.

In fairness, so did Whitmer to get Selfridge not to close.
