Majority of Americans Can't Afford to Live Here!

60 percent of people in our country cannot afford to live in America. Are ya loving your winning just yet? BTW, as much as I'd just like to say its Trump's fault -and in recent months it is - its systemic. With 60 percent of us unable to afford living in our country can we really say we have a middle class? If we do not, then watch out because the fanaticism that spawned two Trump presidencies is only going to get worse because if you have a strong middle class you have liberal democracy, the two go hand in hand. When people can't make ends meet? You get fanaticism and authoritarianism of one sort or another. I do fear for this country and I have for many years.

Not if you DON’T major in Foreign Language or Art History or education or social sciences… and don’t expect bank with that Poly sci degree.
 
Over 40% of people who identify as homeless, have full-time jobs. They just can’t afford housing. Even here in my old neighborhood in Buffalo, these big old Victorians were only about hundred thousand dollars to buy 20 years ago. Now they’re about $400,000. The Airbnb I’m staying in, if this apartment was a rental the owners told me they could get $1700 a month for it three blocks from where I paid $650 a month For an apartment that was twice the size?

Which would be great if the pay rates went up 400%….
 
I will say am grateful for what I have as I am fortunate but I feel for others out there struggling. Are we all at least somewhat at fault for some of this? Think about it 50 years ago people bought homes and stayed in them. They paid them off and made their own repairs. Today Americans are upgrading their homes what seems on a regular basis. Everyone needs the big house with all the amenities. People are buying homes every 5-10 years it seems. Look at vehicles, how many sedans are on the road today? Everyone is driving bigger vehicles. Why, do we really need it? 40 years ago did everyone have a $1k phone in their hand with a $200plus monthly cell phone bill? How about restaurants? People eating out almost daily. 50 years ago how many restaurants were there? In doing this the middle class is making the wealthy even more wealthy. When will it end? Or how will it end?
 
Bought my townhouse 2001 just paid it off early now just pay tax. I paid 170 in 2001 value now 495k. If I sell it my next place would require way more taxes

I also fix my own stuff cept electrical that requires rewiring

He used to say this to me and others, like someone gave me what I have.

Neither I or my wife got an inheritance, or a windfall payout of any claim, just punching a clock in shitty factories for 40 years.

I guess somehow, it’s people born from 1946-1964 who caused all the worlds problems…..I don’t understand that reasoning..

Nah, pretty sure I'm not. Lets see, F8t thinks the Democratic Party is so much better than the Republican Party that when asked for examples he couldn't give me one. On the other hand, I think both parties and decades of voting for the evil of the two lessers has resulted in a system that only works together to fuck us over.

F8t would condemn you for making your way through your work, that was not intentional on either of you Sukie and JC, I do not seek to punish you for years of hard work. I just want the same opportunity. Sadly there are some who would refuse younger generations that and cannot appreciate how much further the deck is stacked against them in ways that it was not when you were younger.
