Tabor, 53, will replace Matthew Smiley, who was fired Sunday after three years leading the Bills’ special teams.
Tabor was an NFL assistant from 2008-23 and sat out the 2024 season. He was the Chicago Bears' assistant special teams coach from 2008-10 and held the special teams coordinator title with the Cleveland Browns (2011-17), Bears (2018-21) and Carolina Panthers (2022-23).
With the Bears, Tabor coached a first- or second-team returner in all four seasons – Tarik Cohen (second-team All Pro punt returner, 2018), Cordarrelle Patterson (first-team kick returner in 2019 and second-team kick returner in 2020) and Jakeem Grant (second-team punt returner in 2021).
Tabor finished the 2023 season as the Panthers’ interim coach and went 1-5. He coached in the high school and college ranks from 1993-2006, including stints at Missouri, Utah State and Western Michigan.
