Remembering Things Past

Seems familiar.
Since you are an Alden guy, do you remember The Greenwoods? Was a restaurant on Broadway. Also, Beachy's. A burger, submarine etc. little joint on the north side of Broadway. Best submarine I've ever had, even better than John and Mary's. I've googled both of these places and can't find a thing.

Wood burning set

Tons of fun but man when you had visible third degree burns on your hands and arms. There was no way you would let mom see the festering blisters

What about Melody Fair? The Who, Alice Cooper, and many famous names played “in the round”.

It’s a Walmart now….🤷‍♂️😵‍💫

I am an Alden guy! At least when I was a kid. I just put a big post on the Remembering Alden FB page. I totally know Beachy's! Man, I had forgotten all about Beachys

So glad to be part of this group.

I lived on Broadway, across from Townline School in the house that had the WATCH REPAIRS sign over the garage from 1970-75. It was actually my Grandparents' house. As kids, we played at the school and back at the creek all summer long.

I tell my own kids now how we would go back there when I was as young as 7, no grown-ups, just us kids, and walk the creek up past the water treatment station and Elephant Rock, or ride our bikes down Greenfield to Jane Dr and back to the motorcycle trails.

I once counted 1000 steps from our house, down the hill to the store at Townline Rd, where my friends and I would buy candy and hang out at Fireman's Park.

When I was older (10), we'd go to the Two Rod Rd area. Back then, My Grandfather would take me to the store and send me in to buy his Pall Mall non-filters.

Anyway, those days seem like they were magic now.

I miss those close friends I had. Norman Reed. Diane & Brian Muszinski, Robert Shoemaker, Tim Sawyer, Jeff Williams, Brian Mack. Brett Lesser, Darren Wang, Chris Manhart (Still friends), The kids right at the corner of the entrance to the school, I can't remember their names anymore except Diane who was my age, and many others. Those days were magic.

If your mom knew what it would have meant to you a half century later, surely she would have let you.

Did you ever hear of McVan’s? I was in there a few times, and they had pics of Hendrix playing there. Cool stuff.

Mine was Beatles in Toronto a couple years earlier….😤

Nice. Well, seeing as I was around 7 it wasn't happening. Have heard of McVans but don't recall ever going, even when I was older.

Another shot of that show

Mine was Elvis at the NF Convention center right around the time he died

I happen to have one of these with a bunch of reels, all the classics, Elmer Fudd, Tarzan and including that would be very racist today; Little Black Sambo. We got it at a local auction last month
