Screw cable…. I’m including YTTV, Hulu Live, etc.

HOA contract with Comcast (Xfinity) ends Saturday. Included in my HOA fees and not really thought about.

I stream regular Hulu, Peacock, Appletv+, HBO Max, Paramount+

I watch cable for basics. Local news, Today Show, and we switch it on for background when too late to start an hr long program.

So…

Xfinity offers basic 10+ channels $20/mo. Done deal thread over. But wait. It’s $8 more if I don’t offer direct withdrawal to my checking account So now it’s $28

2 boxes 10 bucks
And a 25 dollar broadcast (wtf is the initial 20 bucks for?)
Plus taxes… it’s almost $75/mo for 10 channels.

I could YouTube TV or Hulu Live or Direct TV… 90 bucks plus.

I am installing an attic antenna this upcoming week. I’ve researched and I’ll let you know how it goes. The antenna will be directly fed into my 2 TVs with existing Coax. And I’ll continue my streaming of other stuff.

Anyone else using an antenna?

I am in the midst of a huge cable cut off as well however the details are very different up here in Canada and I am dealing with 6 TVs and possibly adding a 7th.

Much more complicated but my early research looks like a $100/mth savings and having 10 times the number of channels available.

I follow a lot of international sports.

That is the Clearstream V2 I have it on my second floor “floor” and I’m pulling in 94 channels most of which is crap but signal is great. I plan on mounting in attic Sunday or Monday then running it through 2 of my existing coax li nes from cable company.

Btw Comcast quoted me 110 for my current cable that I don’t watch much of and it’s 100 channels. Basic no premium… they don’t care a bought cable anymore… something is afoot.

What are you using if not cable?

Researching going to https://buzztv.com/

My issues are the sheer number of boxes I require.

So I have dedicated a couple of hours this weekend to deal with channel selection detailed research and doing the math.

The idea would be to get rid of the TV portion of my fibre cable bill and only keep the 1G internet and home legacy phone with them.

That saves $120/mth.

The get rid of FUBO $35/mth + Netflix $25/mth + whatever (if any) streaming services we may have other than Prime which is linked to Amazon same day delivery and is an annual fee.

My understanding is that both of the above services have all the sports channels I watch and ten-fold more.

What has been my obstacle is buying all those boxes.

Once I figure which service to go to, I will ge face to face to negotiate the price per box down as low as I can go.

Spiked, if you have smart TVs there is an easy solution. Antenna and Tablo. Tablo gets connected to antenna then Ethernet into router (or not) and tv is WiFi to all smart TVs. At least it would cut down the number of TV connections

I use Amazon, Netflix, and Criterion Channel. My main screen is an 84 inch smart tv and so when its time to watch a movie those do the job. If I can't find an interesting movie or series on those I watch youtube or any of my 1000 or so legacy media (dvd) library. Antenna tv? I get about 40 channels here so really I don't do the dish and I don't do cable. My internet provider is Google Fibre. As far as youtube tv? I had them a couple years ago for Sunday Ticket, but in so many ways that was a ripoff.

Update: installed my new antenna in my attic where main cable splitter is located. Now I get 94 over the air channels including multiple NBC CBS and ABC and Fox (Miami and Palm Beach) . 4 out of 5 bars signal strength and in HD. There are also channels like CW, Ion, court TV , Justice, a bunch of other channels and the easily deleted religious, creole and Spanish channels. Lots of shopping channels as well

Between this simple setup, and my AppleTV+ Paramount+ Netflix Prime, Hulu, HBO Max and Peacock… I have everything I need.

wait, I can delete channels? I'd love to kill all 15 Daystar, Jimmy Swaggart, and TBN channels I have to flip through
