This has the makings of a letdown game. The Bills can't let that happen. Even though they effectively won the AFC East last week, the No. 1 seed in the conference isn't out of the question. To get it, the Bills have to beat Indianapolis before they can even start making plans for the Chiefs in Week 11. Give me more of Ray Davis, who played only nine snaps last week, on offense. That's not enough. Quarterback Josh Allen needs to continue to play a clean game, as the best way to let an underdog gain confidence is to turn over the ball. This is a good gut-check game for the Bills' run defense, since Jonathan Taylor has given them issues in the past. The defense needs to make the Colts' offense one dimensional so the pass rushers can get after Joe Flacco.
Bills, 28-20.

The injury issues at wide receiver for the Bills are notable. Rookie Keon Coleman is already out, and veteran Amari Cooper is questionable. It’ll be a good test of how well the Bills can spread around the ball. They’ll also want to get their run game going early. For the defense, if it can continue its streak (11 games) of takeaways, it can make the day easier for the Buffalo offense. The Bills are the better team, but plan ahead for the Colts to keep it close.

Expect a one-possession game because that’s all Indianapolis plays – the Colts are the fourth team all-time to have each of their first nine games decided by seven or fewer points. The Colts’ close scores means the Bills can’t overlook them and ahead to next week’s battle royal against Kansas City. This needs to be a run-game contest for the Bills because of their injuries at receiver and the Colts’ 31st-place ranking stopping the run (149.8 yards per game). The Bills’ highest rushing attempt total this year is 34. How about reaching 40 carries? Twenty for James Cook, nine for Ray Davis, six for Ty Johnson and five for Josh Allen. On defense, the Bills need to get Indianapolis into third down – the Colts are 26th in the league (35.3%).

The Colts have been competitive. They lost twice to Houston by 29-27 and 23-20. Impressive. They lost close to Green Bay (16-10) and beat Pittsburgh (27-24) and Miami (16-10). Those three games come with asterisks. The Packers and Dolphins were without their starting quarterbacks. Pittsburgh lost two fumbles in Colts territory and gave up a gift field goal. Jacksonville’s shaky offense put up 37 on the Colts. The Bills’ offense should have a decent day. The issue is the Bills are depleted at wide receiver. This would be an ideal time for Curtis Samuel to step up and do something ... anything. The Colts have good skill-position talent. Jonathan Taylor is a top runner, and Josh Downs is a budding star in the slot. The Buffalo pass rush must show up vs. Joe Flacco. I see this turning out tougher than most fans expect.
Bills, 22-17
