Official 2024 Gardening Thread

I’ll probably roll the lawn tomorrow. It’s not supposed to rain until later.

One thing about where I live, it’s very low in areas. So some areas are dryer than others, it’s hard sometimes to complete a job.

I stopped rolling the lawn 2 decades ago.

The gurus say compressing the top layer is unhealthy for the lawn.

My lawn is not perfectly even as a result but it is healthy as fuck.

Plus we like it more for our Extreme Croquet games.

I would agree to an extent about rolling, but I also have an aerator that pulls plugs out of the grass to keep it from compressing.

Plus it hurts my freaking back when I have to cut over ruts 😊

I use a John Deere lawn tractor -- NOT a big one -- to avoid the bumps and tow behind an aerator, de-thatcher, spreader and 10 cu ft dumper when necessary.

No way can this lawn be cut by a non-riding lawn mower anymore.

It has been about 10+ years of over seeding by now and it is waaaaaaay to thick.

Getting yard up to speed, and started mulching. Things are starting to perk up, and my wife bought some trays of flowers. We got a nice soaking of gentle rain throughout the day. I imagine you got the same.
