Remembering Things Past

We had ropes in 6th grade gym . Any rope burn got a walk over to the gym office a a fluorescent pink painful spray of that shit. I learned not to scream cuz the classmate abuse would be worse than the burn.

Also ropes 30 feet high with a fall death prevented by a 2 inch foam pad on the floor and an overweight gym teacher…
I don't remember it as a spray, or being actually pink. Seemed more on the red side, It was something that was just daubed on with a cotton ball, kind of like a battle scar when it dried. And yea it burned like hell.

We didn't have any padding under the ropes and they went all the way up to the rafters.

Dodge ball was interesting, most of the balls were regular size but there were 2 of them that were around the size of a cantalope. Not that much bigger than a softball, those little buggers could really sting.

I was terrified of heights when I was a kid. Never made it up those ropes.

Mineral oil. And those hideous candles were all over the mall.
Ahh, that's what it was, yes. I remotely remember the candles but really didn't make it to the malls much back then. Bought my first cassette ever at a..I'm guessing here.. Cavages in Eastern Hills Mall.. Zoot Allures.

Loved that Cavages, and National Record Mart in the main hallway, with Mens Magainzes on display in a magazine section on one of the side walls lol

Lived EHM. It seemed like a long drive when your a kid coming from N Tonawanda. They had that airport store with the squishy rubber flooring. Loved eating at Roy Rogers and the Carless Navigator

My Mom's BF owned the Careless Navigator. We spent the first two nights of the Blizzard of '77 in there and had total run of the mall - everything was closed.
I got about tackled walking into Airport by a clerk who thought I was Steve Perry

That's pretty cool, a bike would have been great to just go ripping around the mall.

When I was around 13-14 we had stopped by EHM on the way to my grandparents in Clarence. I went into Cavages for a few just looking around and noticed there were a Lot of people in there. Turns out, in the back left corner Frankie Valli was signing some new album and just chatting with people. Went back there to check it out and, man the guy was short. Like 5' or so, very tiny dude.
