Spike's Annual Mock Draft -- 2025 Version

My reading for what it is worth is that the 2nd round is particularly deep with plenty of "value" this year.

We already pick twice in the 2nd round at #56 and #62.

Our 1st round pick at #30 is in essence a high 2nd round pick.

In this 2025 mock draft the Bills trade our 1st round pick and our two 4th round picks (#109 and #132) plus our three 5th round picks (#169, #170 and #173) in a series of trades so we end up with four 2nd round picks?

That would still leave us with our two 6th round picks (#177 and #206) for flyers.

I just think this team's roster is currently too deep for a 4th or 5th round drafted player to make the line up unless he is a specialist of some sort.

On the other hand, we may NOT get four 2025 starters from four 2nd round picks but we very well may get 4 starters by 2026.

Four 2nd round picks could get the Bills a DT, a OL, a WR, a DB....whatever that would either start in 2025 or rotate in enough to become a starter in 2026.

Using this ==>. https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp

Our two 2nd round picks => 56th = 340 points and 62nd = 284 points

Our 1st round pick => 30th = 620 points

Our two 4th round picks => 109th = 76 points and 132nd = 40 points

Our three 6th round picks => 169th = 23.8 points and 170th = 23.4 points and 173rd = 22.2 points`

Total points available to attempt to trade for four 2nd round picks = 1,429.4 points

2nd round picks range from 580 points (33rd) to 270 points (270th)

Therefore we certainly have the resources to obtain four 2nd round picks assuming we find willing trade partners.

AFTER THE TRADES SPIKES 2ND ROUND ONLY MOCK DRAFT

Top 3rd of 2nd round -- Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

This guy is a very strong athletic left tackle who is coming off a torn patellar tendon so I expect he will drop to the 2nd round.

I believe he would definitely be a 1st round pick if not for his injury.

He will need a a year or two to get back to full health to be a starter.

Dion Dawkins will be 31 years old next Saturday and there is NO way Spencer Brown's feet are quick enough to play LT at a NFL level full-time.

This pick is for the future and is what a perennial contender does.

Top 3rd of 2nd round -- Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame

We need a much better CB opposite of Benford or that #2 CB will be constantly picked on.

Morrison is 6' tall, has a ton of upside and did a good job of limiting Marvin Harrison Junior

Top 3rd of 2nd round -- Jalen Royals, WR, Utah

I don't believe we need a "tall" WR for the red zone. We have invested heavily in two TEs to do that.

I believe we need a #2 WR who could push to be the #1 WR.

Royals that is that guy.

6'

4.42 forty

Good measureables ==> https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/Jalen-Royals-WR-UtahState

I see him rotating into the #2 WR position at the beginning of the year and winning it outright by the end of this season.

Last 3rd of 2nd round -- Deone Walker, 1DT, Kentucky

In 2022, he had 40 tackles, one sack, and two passes batted. As a sophomore, Walker totaled 7.5 sacks with 12.5 tackles for a loss, 55 tackles, two passes batted, and eight quarterback hurries. Same think he was one of the best defensive linemen in college football in 2023. The 2024 season was disappointing as Walker had periods of very quiet play, especially as the losses mounted. Walker had 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defended in his final season with the Wildcats.

Entering the 2024 season, Walker looked like a first-round pick and a player with high first-round potential. After his ugly final season with the Wildcats, Walker dropped drastically.

I am betting he drops to the bottom of the 2nd round and the reason for his poor 2024 play was due to Kentucky''s shitty season.

In 2025, Walker would be rotated in to play next to Ed Oliver who needs a BIG 1DT next to him to soak up blockers so Oliver can be the penetrating disrupter he was in college. Walker would be a starter in 2026 after a year of NFL weight training and nutrition.

I like and respect the work put in I just don’t see that many moves.

Beane excels at finding contributors in late rounds

Where is a pick after the 4th round going to contribute on this stacked roster this year?

Unless they are a Return Specialist, Kicker, Punter or Long Snapper -- I just don't see it.

He will end up on the PS ready to picked off by some other team.

Who gives a shit that Beane was lucky in past years in later rounds but sucked in early rounds?

History is just that...history.

Shit the United States of American once had Presidents that respected the law.

Times have changed.

They could contribute on special teams and backup roles then excel post injury to a starter. You need all the picks. Because of rookie deals. Cook will be gone next off season. So pick a RB. Gotta churn contracts and replace when you pay for a franchise QB. Only a select few key players will get seconds.

Just my take on how things are in fact different

Sure however before you enjoy those cheap contracts:

(a) the player has to be good enough to make the roster and count on the top 46 salary cap wise;

(b) he has to be ready to play immediately or he will end up on the PS where he free to sign with other teams;

(c) McCollapsy has NEVER been keen to play rookies on Special Teams so he would need to change that fundamental philosophy of his which I don't see that happening; and

(d) No player drafted in the 4th round or later fits the above.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again yet expecting different results.

The Bills have been contenders now for a number of years and simply can't get over the final two hurdles.

Sure in past years for the Bills and other teams having more darts to throw at the draft board hoping to hit on the big ones was the norm.

How about we throw less darts but from much much closer to the dart board thus increasing our chances of hitting on multiple big ones?

Perhaps that gets us over the two final hurdles rather doing the same thing over and over again thinking we can outsmart the other well researched NFL teams by hitting big in the 5th, 6th or 7th round.

There is simply no room on this current roster for any long shots to make the team,
